The history of this deck and book are as amazing as the deck and book themselves. He was so impressed by Michael Goepferd's linoleum block cuts that he felt that the deck "had" to be published. Brian approached Michael about writing a book to go with the deck, as there was a much greater chance of the deck being accepted for publication if there was a book to accompany it. The result of this coming together is a book and deck that are cohesive in nature, as well as strong in spirit, focus and intent.
Brian wote the book as a collaboration with Michael - feeling that the words should reflect Michael, and not himself. The words are gentle, yet strong. They flow freely, and they never waver. We see here two gentlemen that have honed their craft well, and gifted the Tarot world with a marvelous tool. The "Light and Shadow" Tarot carries with it many levels of energy and understanding.
The first level would be related to physical presentation. The very manner of creating linoleum block prints is such that areas that are to appear white are cut away, and that which remains will show as black.
Without color to "distract", the energy of the concept or thought that the card represents comes through with a major impact. The second level of understanding is very connected to this use of white and black, or positive and negative space.
The Tarot in and of itself it a spiritual journey, a tool to be used for personal exploration. In setting foot on this journey, we are putting forth an implicit agreement to work with the "shadow" sides of ourselves. These shadows are the corners ofo ur lives that we refuse to bring into the light, for fear of what we will see. They weigh us down - they are our "baggage". We empower ourselves by searching our out baggage - by shining light into the recesses of our souls.
In my opinion, the "Light and Shadow" Tarot is an excellent deck for this purpose. For whatever reason, I found this deck easy to handle - and well worth the effort! The backs of the cards have a white border, with a narrow black border forming a frame around four hands - each hand holding a representation of one of the elements.
I found t hat this gave power to the deck. The face of the deck has a white outer border, a narrow black inner border, then a second white border that frames the picture. For the major arcana, the numbers are on the top of the card, with the title on the bottom.
The pips show the number across the top and the name of the suit across the bottom. The court cards show the card title and suit across the bottom. Each of the cards starts with a short poem from the work "Incantations", written by Mark Hannon. There follows a discussion of the card, and a section on its divinitory meaning. For the most part, this deck follows very traditional Tarot lines of interpretation.
Where it departs is that the females represented in this deck are strong - a good balance for the male energy, which is something that is not seen in all decks. These are also the kind of cards that one needs to look at - and then look at again! If you are just starting out in painting, one of the first areas I suggest you learn is how light and shadow work. It is also one of the few aspects of art which is not that subjective because it is based more on science.
With light and shadow, you either have it right or wrong. This is handy for artists as so many other aspects are subjective by nature, like color and composition. This post is a beginner's guide to how light and shadow work.
I will be painting an egg to demonstrate my points. If you are a beginner, then you might want to follow along with this egg tutorial. Here is what I used:. Highlight : Where the light is directly bouncing off the object. This is usually the lightest part of the object.
The position of the highlight varies depending on the position of the light and the viewer. If either of these move, the highlight will move it is not fixed on the object. Cast shadow : Shadow which is left by the object but is not on the object itself. Reflected light : Light bouncing back into the form shadow from the surroundings.
Core shadow : Area of the form shadow which is not being hit by any reflected light. This influences the way light and shadow fall on the egg.
In this case, the light is coming from the upward left corner and appears to be close and intense. As a result, there is a sharp cast shadow. I start by indicating where the light is coming from and drawing the contour of the egg and shadow. I am not that worried about how well I render the egg at this stage as I can easily fix mistakes in the wet paint later on if needed. I am really just trying to develop an understanding of the form and where the light and shadow is falling.
I then block in the light and dark areas of the egg. This is what you get when there are no mid-tones.
blades of light and shadow
Notice how little information is conveyed from this. You don't get a sense of form without the mid-tones and it appears very flat. This is kind of like a notan studyin that you get to see the most basic abstract design created by the balance between light and shadow.Whilst these all play an integral part, the most effective method of making your drawings appear three dimensional, is understanding how light logic works.
The theory seems simple and the changes in technique small, but applying the principles of how tone, light and shade work, will improve the illusion of form in every drawing you do — regardless of the subject. Just by the nature of the lighting setup we have in our homes, it makes it really difficult to achieve a dramatic drawing successfully. To make something look three dimensional, you need the light to do the work for you — rather than your pencil.
Sketching really helps you to keep your eye practiced and your creativity flowing and I do it every day. But when I want to work up one of my sketches into a more developed drawing, I would have a more conscious approach to the lighting setup, composition and design of the piece. It could be the sun, a light through a window or an artificial light. Learning simple form principles will enable you to see the fundamental shapes of which all of nature is comprised.Science - Light and Shadow - Basic - English
The cone, the cube, the cylinder and the sphere. The shadows that are made by the light are always in a direct response to whatever the light hits, whatever angle the light is coming from and the intensity of the light source. Later in the day when the sun is very low, it will make a longer more interesting shadow shape, usually more representative of the essence of the tree and the presence of light. If a single light hits a cube, it will make a square shape — if a single light hits a sphere, an ellipse shape.
The characteristics of the cast shadow are dependent on the intensity of the light source.
A hard light will produce a cast shadow with a sharp edge, a soft light will produce a cast shadow with a more blurry edge. The longer the cast shadow is from the object, the softer the edge of the shadow becomes. Notice how the cast shadow is darkest right underneath the sphere and then it gets lighter and lighter as it goes out further away from the light source. Also a cast shadow behaves predictability when on a flat surface, but when there are other levels or surfaces in the shadows path, the shape can be altered depending on the surface over which it falls.
This is one of the first things to check on your drawings and paintings. Do the shadow shapes logically sit with the subject and the lighting? Once you understand the basics of how light behaves, it is quite encouraging to think that a small amount of information can give you the knowledge needed to convincingly portray the illusion of form with any subject. Light side — This includes the Highlight and the Halftones.
The Halftones are always going to be lighter than any value on the shadow side and blend into the shadow side sometimes they can be split into light half tones and dark half tones.
The Form Shadow Core is the darkest part of the shadow, the rest of the Form Shadow is made up of dark tones that blend away from the core shadow into the reflected light, if there is any. Reflected light is the light reflected onto the subject, from the surface it sits on or ambient light around the object. The darkest part that sits directly under the object, the mid tone that makes up the majority of the cast shadow shape and the lightest, softest tail of the cast shadow. The main thing to remember is to keep each area clearly defined.
This seems obvious but making the smooth transition between the lights and the darks is no mean feat as the shadow line actually falls over quite a small area and not forgetting probably the most tricky thing — retaining the fullness of the globe shape. The problem is the darker side spreads, it creeps, you work harder and harder, you then think your eraser will fix it.
Your shadow line has gone North, your light logic has now become illogical and your light side has become darker with all that flurry of blending!

The Highlight is the very lightest part. The Halftones blend into the shadow side and make the highlight appear white. They are always lighter in value than the lightest value on the shadow side. It is the dark side on an object not facing the light that reveals the form and mass of the shape. It falls under the Shadow Line or Terminator on the dark side and is where there is no light hitting the surface. It blends into the rest of the Form Shadow which is lighter in value because reflected or ambient light within the scene.
Reflected light is when the light is reflected onto an object, from the surface it sits on. White or shiny surfaces reflect the most light, dark or black surfaces reflect the least amount of light. You can print out this guide and practice matching the tones with your pencils. Because you will be really tempted to try to use a lighter tone than you need, being able to check your values will enable you to keep the illusion of light consistent. When working on three dimensional drawings, the two things I focus on are form and edges. Can the two find freedom, redemption — and love — without drawing their swords on each other?

One of my favorites out there, although some might say the story is a bit too rushed but for me it ended just fine specifically loved the other half of the story.
I havent read a story where i was completely satisfied with the ending lyk this one Everything about this is just soooooo goood Thankyou for giving me a chance to read such a stry. Absolutely agree that this story was written by geniuses. I recommend it. The author made the FL such a badass strong character, being able to stand by herself and technically is strong a good fighter. I love it because it breaks the mainstream where FL should be weak and dependant on ML. And the ML too is awesome in the story despite at the beginning he was kind of a bastard with his attitude but eventually fall head-over-heel with the FL.
He is also an understanding person to be able to forgive FL for keeping her identity a secret for so long. I just finished I am really happy I think I can read this over again its really good I hope there is a sequel. I saw this off of an Instagram ad and thought it was cheezy but the story and art style completely threw me off my seat. At first the art was rough but you can tell the beautiful improvement the artist goes through each chapter.
I honestly look forward if someone would make an Anime of this!!! Remember Me. Log in Lost your password? Please enter your username or email address. You will receive a link to create a new password via email.

Cheddar, eonjeong, manga, Day7.When children draw pictures of the Sun, they often show rays radiating outwards — similar to the image below. These light rays travel in a straight line at nearlykilometres per second. Sunlight that travels towards the Earth takes just over 8 minutes to reach us. When the rays reach Earth, they hit whatever is in their path.
If the object they hit is opaque, the light cannot pass through, and a shadow forms. Simply speaking, a shadow is an absence of light.
If light cannot get through an object, the surface on the other side of that object for example, the ground or a wall will have less light reaching it.
There are many sources of light — stars like our Sun, candle flames, light bulbs, glow-worms and computer screens produce light. All of this light travels in a straight line until it hits something. Sometimes, it travels a short distance — like when we switch on the lamp. Other times, light travels thousands of years — like the light from stars we see in the Milky Way.
It is easy to see our shadows when we are outdoors in the sunshine on a clear, bright sunny day, but do shadows form when an object blocks light from other sources? The answer is yes, but they may be difficult to see if the light source is not very bright has a low light intensity.
Shadows are also more definite sharper where there is contrast between the shadow and the lit surface, for example, a shadow on a white wall will be more easily seen. The size of the light source can sharpen or blur the shadow. A small spotlight like a cellphone torch forms a more distinct shadow than an overhead room light, but the sharpness of the shadow changes when the torch moves away from the object.
A shape of an object always determines the shape of its shadow. However, the size and shape of the shadow can change. These changes are caused by the position of the light source. When we are outside on a sunny day, we can see how our shadows change throughout the day. When the Sun is low on the horizon, the shadows are long. When the Sun is high in the sky, the shadows are much shorter. We can create the same effects indoors by changing the position of a torch as it shines on an object. Although the shadow effects are the same, the reasons for the moving light source are very different.
When we use a torch to make long and short shadows indoors, it is the light source that moves. When the Sun makes long and short shadows outdoors, it is the Earth, not the light source Sunthat moves.
